Huntersvlei Sussex cattle are renowned for their adaptable genetics, perfectly suited to the diverse climates of Southern Africa. At the heart of our breeding program lies a dedication to heritable excellence, with maternal traits such as high milk production, low birth weights, and strong maternal instincts carefully passed down through generations.

Each animal is subjected to rigorous annual performance testing and thorough veterinary checks, ensuring proven performance and consistent quality in every herd. Moreover, Huntersvlei Sussex remains deeply committed to sustainability, embracing eco-friendly practices that benefit both farmers and the environment, securing a legacy of responsible farming for generations to come.

In response to growing demand from commercial farmers, we initiated the development of a polled line in 2008. These bulls are bred to uphold the same exceptional standards as our horned Sussex—showcasing strong muscling, impressive width, and the ability to thrive under extensive veld conditions. Today, we produce approximately 8 to 10 polled bulls annually.

We were among the first Sussex breeders in South Africa to implement genomic testing. This technology enables us to verify key traits, such as muscling, meat tenderness, polled genetics, and sire identity, thereby enhancing our capacity to produce consistent, high-performing cattle.

To maximise the genetic potential of our top female lines, we have introduced in vitro fertilisation (IVF) using our stud cows. This step supports our commitment to preserving and enhancing the strength of maternal traits within the herd.
